Erode East by-Election Results Today News Live Updates: Congress candidate E V K S Elangovan wins the Erode East bypoll in Tamil Nadu. On Thursday he said that the victory is an example to the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “The credit for this victory goes to chief minister MK Stalin. He did 80% of the things that were promised by DMK in the election manifesto. I feel proud to be a part of the Legislative Assembly headed by him,” Elangovan said. The bypoll was held on February 27 and was necessitated by the death of sitting Congress MLA Thirumahan Everaa.
The clear lead of the ruling DMK-backed Elangovan, at the end of the third round of counting, prompted celebrations from supporters of the Dravidian party-headed Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), whose other constituents include the two Left parties. After 3 rounds of counting, Elangovan secured 27,843 votes while Thennarasu polled 9,146 votes. according to election authorities. Menaka Navaneethan Naam Tamilar Katchi and DMDK’s Anand secured 1,820 and 256 votes, respectively, according to news agency PTI.
The by-poll has been the centre of attraction in Tamil Nadu in the past few weeks. From Chief Minister MK Stalin to Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami, all prominent leaders were involved in canvassing votes for their candidates at the Erode East assembly constituency as the mandate was seen as an indicator of the ruling alliance’s popularity with Lok Sabha elections scheduled to take place next year.
